Water project wins award

The Mathews Rotary Club has received a District Governor’s Citation for its work on the Water for Everyone initiative.The project provides free, clean drinking water for home use at publicly accessible stations throughout the county. Five stations are currently installed, and seven more are planned through a Rotary International grant. The present stations are located at Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church, Piankatank Ruritan Club Pavilion, Salem Mathews Church, Kingston Episcopal Parish House, and the West Mathews Community Center. Mathews lacks a municipal water system making these stations a vital community resource for those without running water or poor well water quality, a release stated....
