Warriors beat GHS in softball, 5-4

The Kecoughtan Warriors edged out Gloucester’s varsity softball team, 5-4, last Thursday in a game at Gloucester High School. The Dukes committed five errors and were unable to make other defensive plays. Four of the five Warrior runs were unearned.

The Gloucester offense showed some life with nine hits on the day. Freshman Kaia Hutton and senior Elaina Ward had two hits each.

The Dukes entered the bottom of the seventh down by two runs. After two quick outs, Leighann Harper hit an RBI single to make the score 5-4. With runners on first and third, the game ended on a sharply hit ground ball to the shortstop.

The Dukes also dropped a 16-1 game at Menchville on Tuesday, April 27, giving up nine runs in the first inning. Gloucester followed with two scoreless innings and then gave up seven more runs in the fourth.

With five errors in the contest and only mustering three hits, it was an atypical game for the Dukes. Sadie Bowden, Hailey Hardaway and Grace Saunders each recorded...
