Ware, Peasley recognized as Virginia Naturally schools for conservation efforts

Ware Academy has been recognized as a Virginia Naturally school for the third consecutive year. Virginia Naturally is a program sponsored by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries that recognizes schools for their efforts in supporting environmental conservation and stewardship.

Ware’s environmental efforts have included developing an on-campus Monarch Way Station, with the help of local Master Gardeners, to support monarch butterfly habitat.

The following year, Ware developed a middle school economics elective, called “Eggs-cellent Adventure,” which involved raising chickens and studying food source sustainability.

The monarch butterfly rearing has continued along with a new endeavor to germinate milkweed, which serves as a primary food source for the insects.
