Ware Neck rezoning on tonight’s agenda

The Gloucester Planning Commission will hold a public hearing tonight on a proposal for rezoning an 8.86-acre parcel in Ware Neck to allow for the development of a retail business.

The planning commission meeting starts at 7:30 in the colonial courthouse.

The rezoning application from Suburban Countryside (SC-2) to Rural Business, conditional (B-4) was submitted by property owners Kerry and Tunsee McDaniel.

The couple, who own and operate Bangkok Noi Thai Cuisine on Main Street, dramatically amended their June 2018 proposal for this same site. The changes are substantial enough that it is being handled with a new public hearing.

The original plan called for the opening of four connected “villages shoppes” that would be built to suit, along with a conjoined caretaker’s apartment. All told, the structure would have measured around 10,000 square feet.

The new proposal is for only one retail shop and a separate residential unit, presumably for a caretaker or business...
