Ware Neck honors Rudy Nuttall

It was a long time in the making, but after years of effort among a number of local organizations, E. Rudolph “Rudy” Nuttall is now remembered through the county’s first historical marker that was erected recently beside his beloved Ware Neck store.

More than 50 people attended a special ceremony Saturday afternoon as the new sign was unveiled next to Nuttall’s General Store, and a number of people who knew the “Honorary Mayor of Ware Neck” well shared some of their fond memories of him.

Ware Neck resident Ralph Parkes, Nuttall’s son-in-law, spearheaded the effort for the historical marker, and also enlisted the help of other family members and friends, the Gloucester County Historical Society, the Gloucester Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department, and Gloucester County Board of Supervisors to make the marker a reality.
