Ware looks to its musical ministry for outreach; concert Saturday

Gloucester’s historic Ware Episcopal Church will soon be filled with tones of the baroque as the musical ministry looks to the past as part of a plan to grow its future.

“O Sacred Oracles” is the title of the performance of selections by George Frideric Handel, famous composer of “oratorios” (orchestral works featuring voices in addition to the instrumental).

This free concert will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the main church building on Route 14. The performing group, Kontrabande, prides itself on being “the baroque chamber ensemble using small forces for big results.” While admission is free, there is the opportunity to make “a good faith offering” following the concert.

The program is one part of Ware Musical Director Charles Humphries’ plan to increase the size of the ministry at Ware and “get the music service to where it could be, where it should be.”
