Ware Academy welcomes artist in residence

Percussionist Tom Teasley has been an artist in residence at Ware Academy this week. He is a cultural envoy for the U.S. Department of State who has incorporated indigenous sounds and beats into his music. He was named the 2006 Artist of the Year by Young Audiences of Virginia for his creative and educational presentations.

Teasley is conducting percussion workshops for Ware students this week as well as for Page and Peasley middle school students and faculties from area schools. His Ware residency is supported by a grant from a private foundation that supports the arts for all children in light of cuts to public school fine arts budgets.

As an encore to his residency, Teasley will give a free public performance at 7 p.m. Friday at Ware. For more information on the performance contact Ginger James at gjames@wareacademy.org.
