Ware Academy starts new school year

Ware Academy began the 2023-2024 school year Wednesday with a record high enrollment of 197 students. Ware families gathered together for convocation yesterday morning, opening with the Pledge of Allegiance and a school blessing.

Russell McMurtrie, Ware alumnus and Liberty University graduate, was guest speaker for the opening day convocation, encouraging students to pursue their passion.

Leanne Reese joined the faculty and staff as the kindergarten teacher, following the retirement of Lori Goings. Molly Smith and Carolyn Rowe were hired as classroom assistants.

Dawn Fleet, Head of School, addressed parents and students with a message for the new school year. She said that despite Ware’s growth, she is dedicated to maintaining the traditions that make Ware special.

Building improvements over the summer included a new fifth grade classroom and increased security measures.
