Ware Academy earns reaccreditation

Ware Academy in Gloucester was recently reaccredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools, according to Ware’s Head of School Dawn Fleet.

Fleet said the VAIS is recognized at the international level through the International Council Advancing Independent Academy Accreditation and is recognized and approved by the Virginia Board of Education through the Virginia Council for Private Education.

Founded in 1949, Ware Academy is a nonprofit, non-denominational, co-educational, independent day school for students in preschool through eighth grade.

Fleet said the accreditation process is a rigorous undertaking involving a self-study and a visit by a team of peer evaluators from VAIS member schools. She said the team spends several days on campus reviewing the self-study report, documentation and curriculum, and meeting with school administrators, trustees, students and teachers, and observing campus life.
