Ware Academy basketball teams fall to Aylett

Ware Academy hosted its first basketball games of the season on Jan. 5, taking on teams from Aylett Country Day School. The Waves lost all three games but look to rebound when they host Chesapeake Academy this evening.

In varsity girls’ action on Jan. 5, the Waves struggled without starting center Marie Wilson. The Patriots led, 9-3, after the first quarter but Ware cut the lead to one point at the half. 

Led by defensive efforts from Taylor Berry and Nevaeh Washington, Ware pulled ahead, 15-14, going into the final quarter. While Waves’ shots rimmed out in the fourth, Aylett pulled away with 10 unanswered points for the 24-15 victory. 

Berry led Ware with 12 points and the Waves dropped to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in ISAC play.

The varsity boys’ game saw several momentum swings. At the half, Ware trailed, 22-13, with seven points from Cody Carnes and six from Pierce Lambert. Carnes came out on fire in the third quarter, putting up 10 points. A three-point sh...
