Wanner to step down next week

Mathews County Interim County Administrator Sandy Wanner announced during a Mathews Broadband Advisory Board meeting on Tuesday that he has submitted his resignation from the position as of Tuesday, Dec. 7.

In a telephone interview Wednesday morning, Wanner said he originally planned to leave on Jan. 7, after the new board of supervisors is seated, but that time-consuming personal family issues had arisen that had accelerated his departure by a month.

It is unclear whether any arrangements have been made for a replacement to serve as county administrator until the new board is seated. Wanner said he did not know of any arrangements, and Mathews Board of Supervisors’ chairman Mike Rowe had no comment on the matter.
