An Alzheimer’s/dementia 5K run/walk will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, in Mathews. The walk will begin at Mathews County Parks & Recreation next to Mathews High School, proceed to Put-In-Creek Park, and return to Parks & Recreation (which is just over three miles). Upon returning, participants will enjoy grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and beverages. The event is being held in the memory of James Lee (“Pete”) Peterson of Mathews, who passed away on Jan. 12 at the age of 75 after a battle with dementia. “My mother [Brenda Peterson], my sister [Kristen Peterson] and I are organizing this event to honor his life around his birthday on Oct. 28,” said Tarsha Ashford. “We hope this walk brings together others who have loved ones affected by Alzheimer’s or dementia.” For more information, contact Ashford at tnashford77@gmail.com....
