VSP Relief Fund accepting donations in memory of trooper

The family of slain Virginia State Trooper Lucas B. Dowell has asked that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Virginia State Police Association—Emergency Relief Fund. Contributions can be made online at www.vspa.org/donate/erf.html.

VSP spokesperson Corinne Geller said donations should note in the payment reference section, “in memory of” or “in honor of Lucas Dowell.”

This is the same fund for which the family of Chad Phillip Dermyer, 37, of Gloucester requested support after he was killed in action in Richmond March 31, 2016.

Dowell, a native of Chilhowie, was killed in the line of duty on Monday, Feb. 4, while assisting police in Cumberland County to serve a search warrant. A funeral was held Saturday in Chilhowie.  ...
