Voter forum planned in Gloucester Oct. 2

Gloucester voters will get an opportunity to hear their questions answered directly by those running for elected office during a Gloucester Candidates’ Forum, scheduled for Oct. 2 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Abingdon Ruritan Club, Bena. The non-partisan forum is being sponsored by the Gloucester Education Association, the Gloucester Retired Educators Association and the Gloucester Chapter of the NAACP.

Bobby Ray, one of the organizers for the event, said all nine local candidates who are on the ballot in Gloucester for the Nov. 7 General Election have responded positively to an invitation to participate. 

She said organizers are using a guide for non-partisan forums that the national League of Women Voters group makes available to anyone to use. She has also been in contact with LWV members in the Williamsburg and Northern Virginia areas, who still host numerous voter forums in their areas. “We’ve received a lot of good advice,” Ray said.
