Volunteers sought for Mathews Market Days

The Mathews Market Days Committee is seeking volunteers to help with this year’s Market Days Festival, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, with setup on Friday and cleanup on Sunday.

Market Days Committee Chair Morgan Hudgins said that the size of the committee is shrinking each year and that the committee will need to rely on additional volunteers to make the festival happen.

Performers are also needed to provide live music during the day, said Hudgins, adding, “We would love for any local musicians to reach out to us with any interest in playing at this year’s event.”

The 2021 festival will consist of a variety of local and regional arts and crafts, food, and information booth vendors, along with entertainment throughout the day. The annual Car Show will be a “cruise in” event at Thomas Hunter Middle School, said Hudgins, and the annual 5K run will end at the Put-In Creek Pavilion this year.

There will not be a children’s activity area this year, and there will be no street dance.

Hudgins said the festival will follow whatever local, state and federal health guidelines and governor’s orders are in effect at the time of the festival. The 2020 festival was canceled altogether due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering is asked to email mathewsmarketdays@gmail.com. Volunteers should include a name, phone number, and the date and time they will be available.

Anyone interested in having a booth at the festival can find applications at mathewsmarketdays.org. Applications and payments should be mailed to Mathews Market Days Committee, P.O. Box 295, Mathews, Va. 23109.

“We are excited to carry on the tradition of Mathews Market Days,” said Hudgins, “and hope to see many familiar faces at this year’s event.”
