Volunteer sought for board vacancy

Gloucester County is seeking an interested citizen to serve on its Board of Equalization.

The board serves as an appeal board for the county’s real estate assessment, said Community Education director Christi Lewis, and its duties are to hear taxpayers’ concerns for correction of their real estate assessments and increase, decrease or affirm such assessments.

The BOE consists of five members who, upon recommendation by the Gloucester Board of Supervisors, are appointed by the Circuit Court. Each member shall be a resident of the county and a majority of the members must own land in the county, a release said.

There is one vacancy on the BOE for a three-year term to begin Jan. 1, 2016. Preference will be given to an attorney or a commercial/residential real estate appraiser, Lewis said.
