VMS monitoring situation; no racing without fans in the stands

Virginia Motor Speedway, the Middlesex County dirt track, issued the following statement on its website and social media accounts on Tuesday afternoon:

“Virginia Motor Speedway officials are constantly monitoring the COVID-19 situation. Although we are happy to see the state entering Phase 1 of reopening, we still do not know when we will be able to open for racing. As of now, the guidelines set by the state mandate that we stay closed for racing at this time. We hope the numbers continue to improve in the first two phases. We want to race as much as anyone, but we will follow all guidelines set forth by the state. Stay safe and healthy.

“Under no circumstances will we race without fans in the stands,” the statement concluded.

VMS had originally been scheduled to kick off its 2020 season on April 4. For more information, visit www.vamotorspeedway.com.
