VMRC to hold hearing on summer flounder

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission will hold a public hearing about summer flounder regulations at noon Tuesday, Feb. 28, at its headquarters in Newport News. The commission will consider a proposal to increase the minimum possession size limit of summer flounder from 16 inches to 17 inches total length for summer flounder recreationally harvested or landed in Virginia waters, a public notice said.

The purpose of this amendment is to comply with the interstate management plan for this species, the notice said.

Also, the commission will receive comments about possible changes to the landing periods and possession limits for summer flounder commercially harvested outside of Virginia waters.

Meanwhile, the VMRC Finfish Management Advisory Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at commission headquarters, 2600 Washington Avenue, Newport News. ...
