VMRC postpones action on Mathews shoreline improvement case

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission unanimously approved a staff recommendation to continue a Mathews County shoreline improvement case during a meeting Nov. 1 at commission headquarters in Newport News.

By doing so, VMRC spokesperson Laurie Naismith said, the continuance will allow the Mathews Wetlands Board to consider a revised proposal.

Jean Case is seeking authorization for installation of 525 linear feet of riprap revetment along the East River shoreline at 726 Turpin Lane in Mathews. But the matter went to VMRC for review following an appeal from a number of Mathews property owners, Naismith said.

On a separate matter, the commission unanimously approved as proposed the application of Cuong D. Vu. Shoreline improvements are being sought adjacent to property situated along the York River at 8901 Cook Drive in Gloucester County.
