The Virginia Marine Resources Commission approved one Gloucester County shoreline improvement application during its Feb. 28 meeting at commission headquarters in Newport News.
G.C. Tillage, Inc., received unanimous approval to repair and extend an existing 4-foot wide travel lift pier 31 feet channelward at property situated along the Northwest Branch of Sarah Creek off Tillage Lane in lower Gloucester.
VMRC spokesperson Laurie Naismith said that Tillage also received the go-ahead to construct a 12-foot wide commercial loading pier extending 112 feet channelward of means high water adjacent to the travel lift with a 12’x12’ platform.
The application was protested by an adjacent property owner, a staff report said.
On a separate matter, the commission unanimously approved the request for $22,000 for the Virginia Institute of Marine Science to continue research on submerged aquatic vegetation in the Chesapeake Bay.
