Virginia Smith Emerson, 75, of Hayes, died June 15, 2017 at Gloucester House.

Virginia was a retired dispatcher of the Gloucester County Sheriff’s office. She volunteered for many years with the Abingdon Volunteer Rescue Squad.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Annie Smith; daughter, Sally Kerns, and son, Christopher Emerson.

She is survived by her brothers, Jim Smith and Clarence Smith; grandchildren, Nicholas and Ariana Kerns, and Timmy and Sarah Emerson.

Services will be private.
