Virginia (Gin) K. Lynch, 89, passed away on January 17, 2026 at Patriots Colony, Williamsburg, following a protracted illness. She is survived by her husband, Maurice (Mo) Lynch; daughter, Anne L. Smith of Williamsburg; nephew, John Boyd (Amy) of Fleeton, Va., and two sons, Jay and William; niece, Margaret McKeever (Glenn) and two sons, Charlie and Patrick of Rockville Centre, N.Y., and several cousins and their families. She was predeceased by her son, Stephen C. Lynch, and her sister, Janet and husband J. Calvin Boyd of Richmond and Fleeton.
Gin was born in Richmond, Va., the daughter of the late Francis Flournoy and Margaret Cowling Kuyk and grew up in Ginter Park. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School and later graduated from Longwood College in Farmville, Va., with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. Gin began her teaching career at elementary schools in Virginia Beach where she met Mo, a young naval officer. After a five-year courtship, they began a 60-year happy marriage. After marrying and moving to Williamsburg she taught at Magruder Elementary School in York County.
After moving to Gloucester, Va., in the late 1960s, Gin worked in a Head Start summer reading program primarily serving the Guinea area of Gloucester. She was then employed to teach preschool students at Grace Episcopal Day School in Yorktown. When not teaching, she explored real estate in Gloucester County, always looking for a house on the water or a waterfront lot to build her dream house. It was during this time that Gin discovered her knack for business. She and her friend, Molly Boon, decided to go into business together and eventually opened an adult quality clothing consignment store, Deja Vu in Gloucester Court House. They were so successful and enjoyed the consignment business so much they bought an empty store across the street from the original Deja Vu and had it renovated to their specifications. She and Molly accepted an invitation to join the Gloucester Point Rotary Club and became active members of that organization, which eventually sponsored them as Paul Harris Fellows.
After Gin retired from Deja Vu, she became an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the Gloucester Mathews Free Clinic with the task of providing the Clinic with evening snacks for the medical volunteers and their assistants. With Anne and Stephen finishing college and entering the work force, she and Mo started travelling extensively, especially on river and ocean cruises. In 2016, Gin and Mo realized the upkeep of their home on Sarah Creek in Gloucester interfered with their leisure and travel adventures and decided to move to Patriots Colony.
Gin loved holidays, particularly Christmas and Halloween and the decorating that went with them. She was an avid collector of cookbooks, and diligently searched thrift shops wherever she traveled. She enjoyed regular gatherings with her longtime Longwood College friends and annual family visits with her Eastern Shore Virginia cousins. She was active with a breakfast book club she and two other wives living in Sawgrass Pointe started until shortly before her death.
Gin had an enthusiasm for life that she readily shared with her friends and family. She will be missed but her wonderful smile will always be remembered.
Gin will be interred at a private ceremony in late spring or early summer in the William and Mary Memorial Garden. A celebration of her life will follow interment.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish to honor Gin’s memory, the family kindly requests that donations to made to the Riverside Foundation for the Music and Memory Program for the Convalescent Center at Patriots Colony, Williamsburg, in honor of Virginia Kuyk Lynch.
