VIMS to hold shoreline management webinars

The Virginia Institute of Marine Science will hold a two-part shoreline management webinar on Aug. 11 and 25 from 10 a.m. until noon both days.

Part one will be on “Tidal Marsh Ecology.” Researchers from the Center for Coastal Resources Management at VIMS will present findings from two recent studies of tidal marsh ecology and discuss implications for living shoreline design. There will also be a discussion around tidal marsh migration.

The focus of part two will be “Integrated Shoreline Management.” Researchers from CCRM will discuss guidelines and regulations that incorporate sea-level rise and climate change into the management of tidal wetlands and riparian buffers. There will also be a discussion regarding guidance and modeling available to assist localities with implementation of integrated shoreline management.
