VIMS to hold discovery lab on oysters March 16

The Virginia Institute of Marine Science will hold a discovery lab on oysters at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 16 via Zoom.Dr. Ryan Carnegie, a research professor at VIMS, will share his oyster research focusing on host-parasite interactions, aquaculture health and shellfish restoration in the Chesapeake Bay.

Oysters are filter feeders that help improve water quality in local waterways and for many other species. With proper regulation and good science, the community can prevent over harvesting of oysters and help slow the spread of parasites and diseases that can harm populations.

Discovery labs are free, family-friendly programs that include activities and a short presentation. They are presented by the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (CBNERR) at VIMS. Registration is required. Register online at https://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/eventReg?oeidk=a07ehj4vbmn7395472a&oseq=&c=&ch=.
