VIMS Marine Science Day to be held Saturday

VIMS Marine Science Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, Gloucester Point.

Visitors can get an up-close look at jellyfish and crabs, seine on the York River, remove “ghost” crab pots, and learn about the instruments and drones used to monitor and explore marine environments.

The day will include hands-on exhibits as well as tours of the oyster hatchery, riparian forest, teaching marsh, and working laboratories. Cooking demonstrations, 10-minute “fast talks,” and other activities are scheduled for certain times.

The kids’ pavilion will have educational crafts and activities related to this year’s theme, “Sounds of the Sea,” and guests can pose in the Wacky Science Photo Booth.
