Veterans Day observances planned for Friday, Nov. 11

Local members of the military will be honored in a pair of Veterans Day programs in Gloucester and Mathews counties next Friday, Nov. 11. On Sunday, Nov. 13, the Middle Peninsula Marine Corps League Detachment #1317 will hold a 3 p.m. ceremony at the Gloucester County Veterans’ Memorial Wall.

In addition, Thomas Hunter Middle School will be treating veterans to a lunch at the Mathews County school that day.

In Gloucester

Disabled American Veterans Chapter 58 will hold a Veterans Day ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 at the DAV headquarters at 6265 Professional Drive, Gloucester.

Steven Combs, Deputy Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Veterans Services, will be the guest speaker. The son of an Air Force veteran, Combs himself served 10 years in the USAF, including a tour of duty as a squadron commander at Rhein-Main AFB, Germany.
