Vernell Lee Greene, 82, of Yorktown, died April 10, 2015 at the home of her daughter, where she had lived for the past year.
Vernell was a native of Gloucester and lived in Bena most of her life. She was retired after a 30-year career in nursing from Eastern State Hospital.
Vernell enjoyed crocheting, taking in yard sales and had a passion for cooking and hosting family events. She loved her family, and was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. We will miss her smile, but her memories will remain with us always.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Samuel Greene; parents, Earnest and Naomi Greene, and sisters, Hilda Jessen and Frances West.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Byrum (Clarence) and Dian DeMille; son, Samuel Carl Greene (Amber); brother, Leon Greene (Nina); grandchildren, Christopher Schuh (Aryka), Rachel Luckett (David), Teresa Walton (Mike), Stacy Poitras (David), Daniel Greene and Brandon Greene; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Jessica, Ashlyn, Amanda, Kevin and Elizabeth, and a very special friend, Bruce Palmer.
A funeral service conducted by the Rev. Bill West was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery.
The family greeted friends on Monday, April 13, 2015, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
