VDOT working to improve traffic flow on Route 17 through signal coordination

Motorists traveling along Route 17 through Gloucester County will soon be able to do so more efficiently, thanks to a traffic signal coordination project that is being conducted by the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The project is nearing completion of its initial phase, and is expected to move into its final phase by December, according to an update given by VDOT to the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors Tuesday night.

According to Joyce McGowan, VDOT’s Saluda’s residency administrator, the first phase of the project will be finished by March of next year. She said this phase includes synchronization of signals in Gloucester County from Glenns south along Route 17 to Fiddlers Green Road.

The second phase, she said, will synchronize signals from Fiddlers Green south along Route 17 to Gloucester Point.
