VDOT to hold meeting next week on Mathews Main Street project

Mathews residents will have a chance to see the plans for an upcoming project on Main Street during a “Pardon Our Dust” meeting with the Virginia Department of Transportation on Thursday, Oct. 19.

The meeting will be held from 5-7 p.m. at Mathews Memorial Library on Main Street, with a brief presentation at 5:30 p.m.

The project will create additional drainage structures for Main Street and Church Street, specifically at Hyco Corner, in front of the Food Lion, and behind Fire Station 1. The project will include upgrades of the storm sewer system from Main Street to Put-In Creek and at the existing crossing of Put-In Creek at Church Street.

This project is separate from, but is being done in coordination with, the sidewalk and drainage project currently underway on Main Street. The same contractor who is working on the current project, Howard Brothers Contractor Inc., will be working on the new project, as well.

The estimate cost of the project is $5.7 million.
