Beginning later this month, and continuing for approximately three weeks, traffic will be detoured while Virginia Department of Transportation crews replace two drainage pipes under Route 198 (Glenns Road) at Zion Branch in northern Gloucester County.
To safely install the pipes, Glenns Road will close to traffic between Route 17 and Route 610 (Salem Church Road) starting Monday, July 21, for approximately three weeks.
Crews must replace two 37-foot concrete pipes. Each pipe is almost exactly the same length as a school bus.
In addition to replacing the large, concrete pipes, workers will perform ditch maintenance along a one-mile portion of Glenns Road near the work zone.
Signs will guide motorists along the recommended detour route, which will utilize Pampa Road (Route 601) and Route 17.
Drivers are encouraged to use the most convenient alternate route depending on their destination. Access to residential driveways along Glenns Road will be maintained at all times.
