VDOT hearing June 30 on widening Rt. 17 at Point

The Virginia Department of Transportation will conduct a design public hearing on Monday, June 30 about a proposed project to widen Route 17 from four to six travel lanes between Lafayette Heights Drive to Tidemill Road in Gloucester Point.
The hearing will take place from 5-7 p.m. in Davis Hall at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, 7539 Spencer Road, Gloucester Point.
Those attending will be able to review proposed project plans and materials, ask questions, and offer comments.
The proposed widening is over a section that carries an average of 30,000 vehicles a day, VDOT said.
Pedestrian improvements are also part of the plan, with some new sidewalks appearing in plans shown on the VDOT website, vdot.virgina.gov. Details are shown prominently among projects being planned in the Fredericksburg District, which includes Gloucester and Mathews.
The work is proposed to start in 2029 and end the next year, at a cost of $40.3 million, the VDOT website said.
