VDGIF recommends powerboats no longer use Tanyard Landing

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries has recommended that powerboats no longer use Tanyard Landing at the northern part of Gloucester County.

This is due to several factors, including a deteriorated ramp and insufficient water depth at low tide due to the mud flat just beyond the ramp.

The matter came up during the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors’ Sept. 5 meeting, when the question arose as to whether Tanyard Landing had been closed.

According to VDGIF spokesperson Lee Walker, the organization analyzes sites recommended for renovation based on their intended uses. Aside from the ramp and depth issues, Walker said the VDGIF made the decision to encourage limited access to the landing because of limited parking and the fact that several other public landings that are sufficient for powerboats are within 20 minutes of Tanyard Landing.
