Vashti’s marks 60th anniversary

Gloucester Main Street staple Vashti’s Jewelers is celebrating its 60th anniversary this month. Vashti’s has been a lasting business in Gloucester, thanks to the hard work and dedication of those who have worked there and the community they serve.

Vashti’s was opened in 1961 by its late founder Vashti Wilcher after she purchased the store from H.B. Heath and changed its name. The business is now owned by Wilcher’s granddaughter and third-generation jeweler, Nicole Michael. Michael took the reins of the business in 2014 from her mother and previous owner Joan Roane.

Roane said that Vashti’s has always followed her mother’s motto, “Treat others as you would want to be treated, and the customers are like family.”

Roane now works at Vashti’s part-time, and said she loves seeing the customers she’s gotten to know as they’ve come in throughout the years. She said that it’s nice to see the next generation of customers grow up and continue to shop at Vashti’s. Some of t...
