Varsity Devils go 3-1 in week

It was a good week, and a busy one, for the Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team with four games in six days, posting wins over Washington and Lee, King and Queen and Charles City. The Devils’ only loss came at the hands of the King William Cavaliers.

The junior varsity Blue Devils had a tough week, dropping their first three games, but managed to pull out a win on their fourth matchup.

The Devils hosted the Washington and Lee Eagles last Wednesday in an evenly matched contest, with Mathews coming out on top at the buzzer, 64-62.

The first half was evenly played and the score was tied, 30-30, as the third quarter began. The Eagles opened a lead in the third quarter, but the Devils refused to be put away.
