V Lady Devils beat Cavs, 30-20

The Mathews High School junior varsity girls’ basketball team picked up a win over the King William Cavaliers on Friday night, 30-20.

The Lady Devils scored 15 points in each of the halves, with most of the 30 points coming off field goals inside the paint. Jade Davis led MHS with nine points, followed by Sierra Davis and Skyller Worley each with seven, Connie Johnson with three, and Stacie Thomas and Abigail Hudgins each with a bucket.

On Monday, the JV girls traveled to Poquoson, falling to the Islanders in a 30-27 nail-biter. Mathews gave Poquoson, a AA school in the Bay Rivers District, a great game.

The JV girls will travel to Middlesex on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. game against the Chargers. ...
