USCG to be recognized at May Faire

The United States Coast Guard will be recognized at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, during opening ceremonies for May Faire on Mathews Court Green.Sandy Warhol, co-chair of May Faire, said the service recognizes the Coast Guard in light of last year’s government decision, then reversal in the face of public outcry, to operate Station Milford Haven in Mathews on a seasonal basis only. She said the May Faire organizing committee wants the Coast Guard to know its appreciation for the service’s work here.

May Faire’s theme this year is Celebrating Mathews Watermen, and this recognition ties into that maritime theme.

The Coast Guard will be represented by Chief Petty Officer Joshua Menges, Officer in Charge at Milford Haven, located in Cricket Hill at Hudgins. The public is invited to view the Coast Guard’s rescue boat, and talk with active duty crew members who will be on duty that day.
