USCG Auxiliary Flotilla holdsChange of Watch

Mathews Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 66 conducted its Change of Watch and Awards Ceremony on Dec. 12. Mary McCoig and Michael Moore were sworn in as the incoming Flotilla Commander and Flotilla Vice Commander.

Michael Moore was also honored as the 2023 Flotilla 66 Auxiliarist of the Year. On the lighter side, Matt Smith and Mike Gregory were presented Sandbar Awards for “misdeeds known only to King Neptune.”

The potluck dinner and ceremony were held at the Cole Building in Deltaville.

The flotilla is now the only flotilla serving boaters of the Middle Peninsula, having accepted Auxiliarists who had been members of the defunct Gloucester and Deltaville flotillas, a release said.

The primary mission of the Coast Guard Auxiliary is to promote boating safety. To that end, volunteers provide free boat safety inspections year-round, conduct numerous boat safety classes, conduct on-the-water safety patrols, and provide safety information to local boating establishments.
