Union Baptist Food Ministry

The Abingdon Ruritan Club donated $1,000 to Union Baptist Church, Achilles, to assist with year-round operation of the Food Ministry. Union Baptist Church helps families and individuals who have basic food needs. Families can receive food once a week. Volunteers invest hundreds of hours of work each year collecting food from community grocery stores. Distribution is held on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The food pantry trailer is located near Achilles Elementary School in the back of the parking lot next to the old Union Hall building. Here, club vice president Mary Lou Shepherd presents the check to A.B. Fulcher, who heads the Food Ministry. Others taking part in the presentation included, from left, Tony Dziadul, Union Baptist’s Associate Pastor Richard Whiteheart and Senior Pastor Jared Berry; Joel Coates, Rupert Thomas, Yvonne Scales and Allen Scales.
