Unbeaten Lady Devils advance in playoffs

After completing an undefeated season, the Mathews High School varsity volleyball team swept by West Point in Tuesday’s opening round of the Tidewater District Tournament, winning in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-12, and 25-18.

The win advances Mathews to tonight’s district championship game against Middlesex. Mathews will host the Chargers (11-4, 6-2 in the Tidewater District), starting at 6 o’clock. At the conclusion of match, the All-District teams will be announced.

In last Thursday’s regular season finale, Mathews (23-0, 9-0 in the district), Mathews defeated the same Chargers in three sets, 25-16, 25-22 and 25-12.

Leaders for the Devils included Mackenzie Moughon with 14 kills, three aces, and three digs; Maddie McCann with eight kills and 12 digs, and Teeny Robbins with three kills, two aces and a dig.
