The Southeastern Virginia Ultralight Flyers Club, led by former Mathews resident Steve Phimister, will buzz over the crowd below, just after 9 a.m.
The ultralight flyover, a special tradition in Mathews, will again take place during opening ceremonies of Mathews Market Days on Saturday morning.
Pilots include Danny Arkin of Richmond (club president), Leo Callahan of Hampton, Dennis Gregory of Gloucester, Richard "Bubba" Leigh of Gloucester, Richard Moore of Gloucester, Phimister of Virginia Beach, and James "Harold" Wright of Gloucester.
Phimister said the club was formed in the late 1980s, operating from Hudgins airpark at the corner of Routes 198 and 3. He said Al Carpenter was the fixed base operator who provided instruction in ultralight aircraft at Hudgins for 19 years.
"Flyovers for Mathews Market Days have been conducted by the club for 20 years," Phimister said.
