UDC scholarship

Mathews High School senior Savannah Smith (front row, center) was honored with a luncheon at Olivia’s in the Village and a $1,000 scholarship check in recognition of her outstanding achievements. The scholarship was given by the Captain Sally Tompkins chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and is bestowed on graduating seniors from surrounding areas who are entering the medical field. Smith plans to attend Rappahannock Community College where she will begin her studies toward a medical career with a possible emphasis on radiology and technology. The scholarship honors Capt. Sally Tompkins, who had a lifelong interest in and capacity for healing.
