The Baystars U19 Barracudas took third place in the Capital Fall Classic soccer tournament last weekend in Richmond. The ’Cudas went 1-1-2 in the two-day tournament.
Starting the tourney with an intense match against Danville Blast 2002, Danville scored first but the ’Cudas quickly matched it with a pass from Elijah Miller to Bay Wiggins, who put the ball in the net. Despite numerous shots on goal by the Barracudas, the tie remained until Danville scored a late go-ahead goal for the win.
The Beach FC 2002-03 Black Cruyff blanked the Barracudas, 3-0, in the second game, scoring early on a penalty kick and keeping the momentum going.
The ’Cudas showed up ready to play on the second day of the tourney and Bobby Cox led the team to a 2-0 victory over Blue Ridge United. Cox scored twice in the first half, including once with a penalty kick, and notched a second goal while the defense kept Blue Ridge scoreless.
