U18 Raiders take second in Fall Classic

The Baystars SC U18 Raiders brought home well-earned second-place medals from the Capital Fall Classic Soccer Tournament in Richmond last weekend.

The Raiders faced the Richmond Strikers Premier in a very physical opening match and prevailed, 1-0. With less than three minutes remaining in a scoreless game, Lauren Orga scored with an assist from Maegan Beck for the win.

In another physical match, the Raiders next played the Arundel SA Blast to a 1-1 tie. Guest player Alexa Ruffin put the Raiders up, 1-0, but the Blast tied it with a penalty kick in the closing minutes of the contest.

On Sunday, the Raiders battled the VA Rush Swoosh in a match that remained scoreless at the end of regulation. That tie sent the Raiders to a rematch with the Blast for the championship. The finale was also scoreless at the end of regulation and after 10 minutes of overtime. In the ensuing tie-breaking penalty kicks, the Blast came out ahead, 1-0.
