Patrick O. Cox, 20, of Heathsville, and Avery Carter, 20, of Chesterfield, pleaded guilty Monday to the theft of firearms from the Gloucester Pawn Shop on Route 17 in White Marsh, according to Dana J. Boente, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
In addition, Cox pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. He and Carter were indicted by a federal grand jury on April 15. Cox faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison on each count if convicted and Carter faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. Their sentencings were set for Sept. 15.
According to a statement of facts filed with the defendants’ plea agreements, three individuals broke into the pawn shop at approximately 1:32 a.m. on Jan. 15. They wore masks and carried tools to break into the firearm display cases.
