Two new reporters join Gazette-Journal staff

The Gazette-Journal recently welcomed two new reporters to its staff: Melany Slaughter and Tyler Bass, both of Mathews.

Slaughter is covering the Gloucester County Planning Commission, working on special sections, and covering school events and general assignment news stories.

A graduate of Mathews High School, Slaughter has a degree in English and a minor in biology from Randolph-Macon College. While in college, she worked as a student athletic assistant for the Athletic Department, and she served an internship with the Gazette-Journal.

Bass is covering Gloucester sports and school events, as well as general assignment news stories. And he is handling web design.

A Mathews High School graduate, Bass holds a degree in Communications and a minor in Biblical Studies from Regent University. Since graduating, he has worked as a membership representative at the Mathews Family YMCA and as a substitute teacher. He is studying for his master’s degree in education....
