November brings two new art exhibits, “Sunrise, Sunset, and Nocturns” and “From My Travels” to the RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.
The two RAL members’ open exhibits include 84 original art works, including paintings, photography, and fiber art. They opened Oct. 29 and will be on display until Nov. 23. Shauna McCranie, a native of Reedville, judged the show. She is the Executive Director of the Greater Reedville Association, the Executive Director of the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum, and a retired educator of 31 years.
Stephanie Brown, Executive Director of the RAL Art Center, presented the awards and McCranie’s comments at the First Friday event, a public reception held on Nov. 1 at the RAL Art Center. First place in the exhibit “Sunrise, Sunset, and Nocturns” went to “Peace in the Harbor,” an oil painting by Rick Seguso.
Second place went to “Glasscutters,” an acrylic painting by James Dylan. Third place went to the acrylic painting “Midnight Seas” by Mary Asbell.
From the 57 works in this exhibit, McCranie also selected seven honorable mentions: “Ground Control to Major Tom,” fiber art by Barbara Brecher; “Sunday Sunrise,” oil painting by Debbie Bull; “Fire on the Water,” photo by J.S. Clawson; “Moonsong,” photo by Averelle Dylan; “Blue Ridge,” fiber art by Susan Owens; “On the Seine in the City of Lights,” acrylic by Juli Schuszler; and “Catch the Son,” photo by Terry Willis.
First place in the exhibition “From My Travels” went to an oil painting by Lizsa Ira, “The Stairs at Wells Cathedral, England.” Second place went to “Past Prime,” a pastel by Jody Ball. Third place went to “Wash Day in Italy,” a photo by Mary Ellis.
From the 27 works in this show, McCranie selected three works for honorable mentions: a photo by Annie Barsky, “Nostalgia Venice Italy”; an acrylic painting by Bob Casazza, “Positano Deli”; and an oil painting by Tam Norman, “Fisherman’s Wharf.”
All works in both shows are available for viewing and purchase. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
