Two new exhibits recently opened at the RAL Art Center, 19 N. Main Street, Kilmarnock. “Red, White and Blue” is the theme for the Jane Stouffer Exhibit Room, and Small Works is also a featured show on display until Aug. 1. The judge for both shows, Cody Latpakdy, is Assistant Visual Arts Manager at the Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center in Hampton. Latpakdy presented his awards at the First Friday’s reception on July 3. For Red, White and Blue, he awarded first place to “Laura Lee in Blue,” an oil painting by Gayle Merrill. “This artwork successfully encompasses a wide range of fundamentals; perspective, value, composition, unity to name a few,” he said. “To add to that, the artist challenged themselves with the subject sitting in a turned position.” Second place was awarded to “America,” an abstract acrylic by Karen Kingsley.
