Two local men die in separate accidents

A pair of single-vehicle accidents over the past two days has resulted in the deaths of two local men, according to the Virginia State Police.
The first accident, which happened shortly after midnight Friday, caused the death of 37-year-old Christopher Steven Dehoux of Mathews. The second, a motorcycle crash early Saturday morning, led to the death of 50-year-old Matthew L. Mintz of Gloucester.
At approximately 12:17 a.m. on Friday, March 31, VSP was called to investigate a vehicle crash in Mathews. According to Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the VSP, the vehicle driven by Dehoux (a 2018 Audi sedan) was traveling northbound on Fitchetts Wharf Road when it ran off the roadway and into a ditch on to Haven Beach Road The vehicle then struck a tree head-on and caught fire.
The victim was positively identified on Saturday morning as Dehoux of the 400 block of Blue Water Drive in Moon.
At approximately 3:20 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, state police were called to investigate a motorcycle crash that occurred on Pinetta Road, south of Enos Road.
Preliminary investigations reveal that Mintz, the driver of a 2021 Harley Davidson, was traveling northbound on Pinetta Road, ran off the roadway, and struck a tree, ejecting the driver. Mintz, of the 2500 block of Starvation Road, Gloucester, died as a result of injuries sustained from the crash.
