The Mathews County Board of Supervisors will hold a pair of public hearings when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday in the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School.
This first hearing is on a budget amendment regarding the proposed dredging project at Hole in the Wall, the channel between the Chesapeake Bay and Milford Haven. The county has been awarded a $1.545 million Virginia Port Authority grant to have the channel dredged, but because that amount exceeds 1 percent of the county’s annual budget, acceptance of the grant requires a public hearing.
The second hearing will be held on the VDOT Transportation Alternatives Program application for the second phase of the Main Street project. This project will provide drainage, sidewalks, pedestrian crosswalks and landscaping along the road from Food Lion to Hyco Corner. The first phase of the project included similar improvements to the road between Food Lion and Kingston Parish.
