Two GHS softball players earn All-State honors

Two Gloucester High School softball players recently received VHSL All State honors. GHS 2015 graduate Shelby Alto was named to the VHSL Group 5A All State Softball First Team as an outfielder. 

Also, GHS rising senior Morgan Haywood was named to the Group 5A All State Softball Second Team as a pitcher. Both Haywood and Alto were named to the All Conference 10 and All Region 5A South first teams for the 2015 season. 

Alto earned post-season honors all four years of her high school career. She hit .500 for the 2015 season while driving in 18 runs from her lead-off spot. She graduated with state records for hits in a game with eight and for consecutive hits in consecutive official at-bats with 15. She also tied the record for runs scored in a game with seven. 

Alto finished her high school career with 114 runs scored and 138 hits, which put her at 10th on the all-time VHSL hitting list. She will attend Eastern Mennonite University on a full scholarship with plans to pla...
